This image was from my first visit to Death Valley. The tour I was with, was granted permission to photograph the interior of Scotts Castle.
This was a first for the park service and I am not sure they ever opened up the interior again for photography. The interior lighting was limited to the house lights and the windows were covered with drapes. We were required to stay on a narrow carpet that ran through the house and we were under strict supervision by a park ranger.

James: This is very cool and I certainly envy you the experience. We made our first visit to Death Valley in October but the road to Scotty's Castle was washed out so we missed it. Gives me a reason to go back. >=))>

The tech on this image was nothing exotic. HDR wasn't all that great so I picked one image with the greatest tonal range and made the necessary adjustments such as WB,B&W points and then worked on smaller areas as needed. The interior lighting of the building is bad!!!. The kitchen area was one of the better rooms as far as lighting. Most, if not all lighting is from incandescent lights surrounded by poorly illuminated surroundings. All in all a fun visit but a difficult photo shoot.

Thanks for the additional details James -- do you recall the lens focal length?
