Cool! I like the onlookers of the whale and how close they are in that small boat.

Since the whale's action is minor (no breeching or fluke or head visible), to me the shot is really about the interaction between the whale and the people. Therefore, I'd really like to see it with the people in focus as well.

That light is awsome, though!

My first whalewatching trip was in that type of boat, but a bit bigger. the rules here don't allow the boats to approach closer than a certain distance to the whale, but the captain (my wife's stepsister) shut the engines off and allowed the whales to approach us. One went right under the boat!

This works for me as is. I like the focus on the whale as it draws attention there, where the watchers are looking. It's clear that's what they are doing so I don't need them to be in focus to read the "story" being told here. Love the light and composition too!

I really like this. I have to get out there some day and try for something like this. Wonderful!

This is an awesome shot!
I'm on the fence as to whether I'd like the people in focus. I don't suppose you bracketed apertures? :D

I'd like to be one of the spectators on the boat :) . An interesting image.

This reminds me of my whale watching trip in Baja for grey whales. I like this image a lot, it really tells the story. I'm ambivalent about the focus on the people- I'd like to see them more sharp yet it seems to work fine as is too. I'd think about cropping some of the bottom to more of a pano format, I'm not sure that all that space adds here?

Wonderful! And with shooting all that film, what'll you be shooting next year instead? ;) Love the composition and the movement of the water around the whale. I don't mind that the people are OOF; in fact, I could take them a bit more OOF - but if you're already at 2.8, not a lot you could do.

Great image Geo, and I can't wait to join you! See you in a month and a half!

This is an excellent illustration for anyone shooting stock - tightly framing is a big no no!!!! Think text, then more text, then headlines! Unless you're only shooting fine art, forget about aesthetical in camera cropping - editors will hate you for it!
