Eared Grebe being released

This little guy only has one leg and was raised in captivity. I happened to be at Port Aransas Birding Center when he was released.

The University of Texas Oceanographic Center has a rehab operation and the hands holding this baby so gently belong to the famous oceanographer Tony Amos.

This is one of the most gorgeous birds on the planet to me when i breeding plumage. I don't have a single photo in this plumage and here you have one at close range. I'm jealous. This guy is gorgeous even though he only has one leg. Hopefully he is thriving!

What a great look at bird rehab. Nice to know there are people out there devoted to taking care of our feathered friends. :) Beautiful little bird.
