I have this shot too - I remember the train bearing down on us just a few minutes later too.

This one made me smile. I would probably have been too nervouse about a train coming to be shooting.

I don't think wearing bright red would help if there was a train coming. Call this "making the grade in nature photography" or "advanced track wildlife workshop"

Very good image from all aspects.

Great title. Hopefully you could see for miles and knew when a train was approaching...

Cool shot, Steve...who knows if the train would stop for all that red! :-)
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Just don't let the CN Police catch you up there!

I do like the way he's looking back as if to see if a train's coming...

:( :( :(

As someone who has shot trains as another aspect of my photo hobby, this shot make me sad and somewhat annoyed. All railroad property is considered private and this person is trespassing. It is behavior like this that has caused most of the remaining railroads to seriously crack down on any person who gets near their tracks, even those of us who put safety first and do not set up on or very close to the tracks. I cannot get near to where I used to shoot because the railroad police are always on the lookout, at least here in the eastern US.

No offense intended, but this is illegal, unsafe and just not smart.

No offense taken, and I certainly understand your concern.
I don't make it a habit, though there are quite a few places in the rockies, where it's difficult to aviod having to cross, or walk along brief stretches of track. Though my title was meant to be humorous, I don't mean to make light of the safety issue.

We had to walk along a short stretch of track to get from where we left the cars, to where we were shooting. There was plenty of room to stay well out of the way of trains, good visibility for a long way, and we didn't spend more than a few brief moments actually on the tracks.
