My uncle has been kind enough to let me borrow his point and shoot digital camera while my D30 is being repaired. While feeling limited by this set up, I have enjoyed finding simple things to photograph locally. This was taken over Labor Day weekend just a few miles from my home. All comments are appreciated! Thanks for looking! :)

Laura, this is really beautiful! I love the composition and colors here.

It would be interesting to see if you took any of the exact same shot but with a little less light. I wonder if it would have eliminated any detail on the barn (rendering it a complete silhouette) and deepened the colors in the sky. Not that I don't like this, not a thing needs to be changed in my opinion. It would just be an interesting experiment.

Glad you are able to take some photos even with your camera in the shop. :)

Hi Heather- I have exactly the picture you are talking about! :) I took about 10 shots of this barn adding and subtracting light to see what I could come up with as the sun set. I would post the second version here but I'm not sure if that's acceptable. :?

Laura, please don't replace the original post but feel free to post the same image in this thread taken with a different exposure if you'd like. It would be great to see for comparison's sake. Good for you for experimenting in the field like that!

Here is the same shot cropped differently, with a little less light, taken a few seconds later, and a little bit closer. :)

Laura, this one is cool, too!

I have to apologize, Greg determined that my monitor is set too bright, which means I saw your original post in a way not intended - it should appear darker than what I evaluated.

I will readjust my monitor so hopefully I will be on the same page as everyone else. But as I said anyway, the original (and repost) are really nice - very well done. :)

Nice shot but I would crop out a bit of the black on the bottom of each shot.

Lovely shot. I like this a lot but I am with Ken about cropping a bit off the bottom here. Way to keep shooting while you wait for your camera.

Great color and compositon, Laura...really like this one.
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

The top shot's color and composition really sing. Nice to take typical midwest fare and make its beauty really apparent.

Lovely dusky colors. Ken's suggestion about the crop is very valuable, IMO, since black is black and too much is too much---sometimes I look at my own sils and can't quite figure out what to do and this is usually the answer!
