Bosque del Apache NWR, New Mexico

All this talk of Bosque has made me think of what it's like to be there. Last year, my first trip and a regrettably short one, was very memorable for me. I enjoyed taking some photos of the Flight Deck and all the dedicated people that would line up there each morning for the "blast-off" of Snow Geese. In this image I captured both the spectators and the "spectatees". :)

In such low light there is digital noise from a higher ISO which I attempted to fix with minimal "smart blur" over the entire image. I plan to do it better this year.

Digital capture with Nikon D1
Sigma 50-500mm lens at 370mm
Matrix metering for 1/4 at f/6.3
ISO 400
Tripod

Comments appreciated!

Wow Heather. Those are some intense colors! I love the dreamy quality the motion blur and early morning colors lend to this image. This looks like an amazing place to visit.

I think this new gallery will be a lot of fun! :)

Very cool Heather, i love the affect of the smart blur here. Has a lot of motion to it that works very well for me. Great colors also!

This puts me in the mood for Bosque! I can't wait. I will do my best to avoid blinding anyone on the flightdeck with my headlamp.

I don't always find the noise from high ISO shots like this objectionable. In some shots I like the look it gives. (Maybe im nuts)

Neat colorful shot. I think the smart blur blurs too much though.

I love this Heather. This is how I remember the blast off from the flight deck last year. It captures the mass spectacle in all but the sound of it. So a little noise is appropriate here!

Abstract and lovely, Heather. I think this shot is just superb!
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

I always like photos like this where the photographer goes outside of his or her "comfort zone" and tries something different. Keep it up.

This has a good feel to it, Heather. I love the texture and the pink colors and the blur. The dark colors and shapes are intriguing, too. I might try to bring more definition by increasing the light tones. It jus seems a bit dark on both the Mac and PC monitors. I like the red-cap (Sandhill crane? :D ) and the hint of blue jacket on the flight deck but would like to be able to see it more.
