Greg, when I few a post that I've made, it says I'm online. I believe that is coming from setting my profile to allow others to see I'm online. Not quite the list but it does show the information.

well I tried to get updated to IE7 at work and no-go. "It hasn't been tested and proved for our systems so it is not allowed". You'd never know I work for a high tech company.....

This is about the Previous and Next Topic feature...

Well, I was thrilled to see it back in so quickly. Although you probably already know this, I still wanted to report that the feature does not quite work properly: it seems to skip over quite a few topics when used. I'm not sure what the pattern is.

Rob, I don't know how the prev/next function worked before because I never used it. But I just played around with what is here now and I don't think it's missing anything. Rather, it is bringing you the topics in the order of oldest to newest replies in the thread -- replies that you have not yet seen. This is different than the order that the topics are shown in the forum index, which is newest (top) to oldest (bottom) based on the date of the original post. See if that is what you are getting...

I have to agree with Rob, when I used it his after noon it skip around on me. The old one just went from top to bottom. I was a bit shocked when i was hitting prev. and it went back to one I had already looked at. But me being me figured I must have hit the wrong button some how, but after reading Robs post I'm thinking maybe I didn't. I will have to play with it some more to figure out what it was doing.

I'm such a problem child :-p

ok I stated with this topic (4th form the top)

I hit previous and that should in theory take me to the next one down It took me to the next one up ( number 3 from top)
Then to the next one down. (number 5 from top) after that it took me to the next 2 down then skipped 3.

Previously, the feature definitely worked for topics as its name implied. So, using the default sorting of topic (most recent topic/thred at the top), starting with the first/topmost topic, clicking "Previous Topic" would bring to the 2nd topic. From the 2nd, you'd get to the third, etc...

This was the most efficient way to go through all images in a board, without having to go back to the board itself. I question the usefulness of this feature now working on a post-by-post way.

Thanks,

This will be "sorted" out :) It's on the "bug" list. :)

I apologize if this has already been bought up. I've been getting this error message whenever clicking on to read a thread in the forum sections.

Toney, I've not seen anyone bring that up but we are aware of it from internal testing and it's on the list. The error is only produced with IE 6 or 7 (and apparently not always with them). But if you can use any other browser you won't see it.

Thanks Royce for replying back. I'm using IE 7 and oddly enough I really don't see what the error is actually pertaining too as all the features seem to work well. Like I said its just whenever I click on a thread to read it.

Woops I just wrote to the support team before I saw this thread! Anyways I'll copy my request here.

Dear NSN,

I just paid for my annual membership and I am looking forward to upload my portefolio. In the meantime I was browsing a few other member's and I noticed a minor nit.

I was in this page for instance, looks fine :
http://www.naturescapes.net/portfolios/ ... ?cat=17414

But then when I click on a picture and land here :
http://www.naturescapes.net/portfolios/ ... pos=-17868

It looks like the header is wrong. I am seeing "photo buyers", "nature photographers" and "tips...". I believe that this should not be there, is that a bug? Plus on Firefox the text appears Times Roman and that's very ugly. Moreover the design is somewhat different than the previous page.

One thing I am also wandering... is it possible not to have the Google ads in the portefolio? This is paid for web space isn't it?

Thanks a lot in advance for your thoughts and all the best,

Philippe.

Philippe,

Thanks for the head's up. Two things seem to be amiss here: the heading you are referring to should only be on the first page. The text style is "default" meaning that if it shows up as Times Roman it's on your end via your browser's default setting. You can change that. Secondly the Google ads should be able to be turned off via your profile for paying members (as they are in the forums). It does not seem to work as designed at the moment but I have put in a ticket to get both these problems fixed.

Thanks for your reply Greg. I am at work and I can't post a screenshot from here.

1. Regarding the font I noticed in your html that the font type for this text is "Century Gothic". That's a font that's normally not included with XP [see http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/winxp.htm] so yes it defaults to the browser's setting but for many browsers that's Times Roman, and that does not look cool :) I guess it wouldn't take long for you to change it to your default font, which looks like Arial, instead of relying on what's on the browsers end.

2. Good to know that as a paid member I can disable the Google ads. Does it mean that if I disable them in my portefolio visitors won't see the ads?

3. I'll try to post a screenshot tonight regarding the header...

Thanks again Greg and have a nice one,

Philippe.

No need for a screenshot - I know what you're saying and will take care of it.

As for the Google ads - if you have them disabled you will not see them but anyone visiting who is not a paid member will see them. They are at the bottom and really not obtrusive.

I cannot seem to get the search function to work when, for example, I am searching for a zoom lens, say 70-200mm. I have tried many combinations and the search function returns that the string 70-200 is not in the database, when we all know there are possibly thousands of posts with this character sequence. When I just manually find a post with this string, and add a few other unique words that appear in the post to the search function, all prefaced with the + character in the advanced search screen, it still does not find that particular post. I am remembering that this worked with the old forum software. It does seem that the problem may be with the '-' character, as it has other functions within the search engine.
any suggestions welcome!

My only suggestion for the moment is to search just for "200mm" by itself, or "70 200mm". This will return a lot of false hits, but you can scroll down the results list and visually pick out the places where "70-200mm" shows in the summary text with red highlighting.

The current search function is not ideal and ultimately will be replaced. The old forum search function had some custom extensions to it, but those extensions were not recreated in the new forum search code because of the work involved in what would only be a short term fix in itself. Ultimately all of the separate, non-integrated search functions across the entire NSN site will get replaced, but that is still a ways off...

P.S. I have now locked this thread. It has become far too long with all kinds of unrelated issues, questions and topics in it. If you have a help question, please post a new topic here in the Help forum, or follow up in an existing topic that relates to your issue. Thanks! :)
