On my new Windows 11 computer, Microsoft is pressing me to sign up for their $7 or so a month Word program.  I like Word and have a ton of documents that likely require it to open.  The unit came with Notepad but it is so bare bones I am loathe to use it.

I had Word on my previous rig and did not pay for it.  Is there any reasonable work around to get the program without the fees?

Fees, fees and more fees! So aggravating. I think MS 365 is a subscription but Office is sold as a one time purchase with no upgrade options. I have used Office 2016 no subscription with no issues.

Steve, I use Office 2010 on my win 10 pcs. Per this link it will run on win 11.

What Office version did you have on your old machine? If you have the install disk, see it it will work. Or it might be in the downloads folder.

My daughter uses the Google version of word. Google Docs. See if this helps:

What about this one? We use it at my office, and the price is right.

Just as long as you don't need the latest "collaborative components of the most recent MS Word edition", Libre Office will work just fine.  I use it.  But if you are sharing docs with people who are using the latest MS Word, you may run into some compatibility issues if they use the latest "bells and whistles" in their docs - you might hit a snag.  But for basic word processing Libre Office will work fine.  And you can't beat the price FREE.  Try it, you have nothing to lose except a bit of time if it isn't your cup of tea.

archfotos wrote:Have you looked at OpenOffice?  I've have not used it on 11, but have used it for years on other OSs I think it's great as I'm not a big fan of a lot of bells whistles and annoying updates.  The only problem I've ever had is creating databases with it - they always seems to develop a glitch.

p.s.  Copying this from the Apache website:  "or can download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.11 https://www.openoffice.org/download/.   Windows 11 users can now also get Apache OpenOffice for selected languages in the Microsoft Store."

Another vote for OpenOffice................I love free stuff.

Compatible but what about security patches for Office 2010?  Support ended in 2020.  I have Office 2010 but am upgrading to Office 2021 (perpetual license).

From MS page.
After Office reaches its end of support, Microsoft no longer provides the following services:
[ul]
[li]Technical support for issues[/li]

[li]Bug fixes for issues that are discovered[/li]

[li]Security fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered[/li]

[/ul]
Because of these changes, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to a supported version of Office as soon as possible.
