My current monitor is a 5 year old BenQ 32 inch 4K display and it's really just about the ideal size for me, but what are the best options for a 32 inch 4K monitor for image and video editing of the current generation?  I'm not that inclined to shell out absurd money for something with an Apple logo on it but maybe something a step above the generic 4K monitors -- something with good color depth and consistency.  

So, what are others using in this range?

Oh, I should mention, I am planning on getting one of the new MacBook models so being compatible with a MacBook of the M1 variety, which shouldn't be an issue these days, but I mention it just for clarity.

The new version of the BenQ 32" - SW321C is reported to be very good with full Adobe RGB coverage, uniformity corrected etc. Apart from the BenQ there is not much in the way of truly colour accurate 32"monitors. You could go for the Eizo 31" 1.9:1 monitor which is a wider format than 16:9, but double the price NEC has effectively exited the high end monitor market - at least in Australia, our local supplier stopped stocking them when they downgraded their dead pixel warranty apparently as they were having QC problems.

ASUS now makes a high end color accurate monitor but it is also in the $5K range:

They have combined with Sharp but they still make the high end Spectraview monitors - nothing has changed in that regard except the name.  Here are the two models in your size range that they offer:

Those are designed for immersive gaming.  They are all about super fast refresh rates not necessarily critical color accuracy or wide gamuts but I'm sure they could work especially if you do a lot of wide panos.

I don't think I'll be shelling out north of $4K for a 32 inch 4K monitor anytime soon.

I'm waiting for the next version of the Sony A7r series which should be the A7r V. Since I shoot a lot of video these days the 4K30 limit of the A7r IV is not quite there. The 61MP sensor is fine and going much higher than that would be a waste with almost all lenses limiting the effective resolution. With the Nikon D800E I had, which was 36MP, I found that stopping down below f/7.1 would reduce detail from diffraction -- opening up to about f/4 would pretty much eliminate diffraction issues but the reduced DOF would limit detail for landscape.

So, I'll try and nurse my current monitor along as long as I can and hope that the prices come down for good 32 inch class monitors at some point.

I'm not a gamer and the aspect ratio is not to my liking anyway.  They are almost all limited to 1440P vertical resolution and the more typical 16:9 monitors are a better fit for image and video work.

Using the BenQ 32" - SW321C. I love it. Had to return the first one via Amazon when it had a solid line down the middle of it. Second one arrived and it has been perfect. I don't consider $1,999 cheap though. It is the most I have ever spent on a monitor.

I am curious to know if you read my post above, in cased you missed it the monitor I was speaking of was $719US...

My comment about not shelling out $4K wasn't in response to your post and there are other more reasonably priced 32 inch class 4K monitors that might fit my price range.
