Can I use different sizes of memory in my PC?  My computer has 4 slots so can I use 8gb and 16gb together or do they all have to be 8gb?

It depends on the motherboard and the BIOS. Some do allow that but they need to be in the correct slots - in other words proper pairing of the sizes in the dual channels. The only way to know for sure and to do it right is to dig into the documentation on your specific mobo.

I have two 16GB sticks and two 8GB sticks in my PC.  All are the same memory specifications (speed/latency) and come from the same manufacturer.  As stated before, you need to insure that you have the pairs of sticks in the appropriate slots and the order can also matter.  For what it is worth, I have my larger sticks in the "primary" pair of slots.

Go to https://www.crucial.com They have tools that will tell you what you can use depending on your hardware. I have been using them for years.

Thanks E.J. Mark and Brian. I'll check the motherboard specs and go from there. You've put my mind at ease about attempting this. Thanks Mark for the link.

In all fairness, Brian provided the crucial link...
