Hi I have a Wacom graphic tablet, installed the latest driver, running Big sur. all of a sudden, instead of approx 5 seconds, it takes almost 50 seconds to shut down the IMac. Removed the Wacom software and the iMac  shuts  down properly. Any idea what’s causing this?
Thanks

Probably Big Sur - it's a very unstable and buggy OS.  Apple has acknowledged that the OS has problems and needs an update ASAP.

Simply installing a new driver does not solve the problems.  you need to fully uninstall your Wacom device and it's drivers by running Wacoms uninstaller, not the traditional way of getting rid of things on a Mac and then you need to install the latest driver.  make sure you hard reboot your system between uninstall and re-install.  that includes a complete shut-down of the system.  Unplugging the system for at least a couple of minutes and then plugging it back in, starting it up and installing the Wacom from scratch.  Any customizations you have made to the Wacom will have to be redone.  The Mac has to look like it has never had a Wacom installed before you reinstall.  make sure you go through all of the hidden folders, library folders, etc and get rid of anything Wacom that remains after the Wacom uninstall.

The unistaller is under Applications > Wacom Utilities

The problem is that Apple triggers an internal Apple Gatekeeper when update a driver from outside of the Apple App Store environment but a new hardware install as you are simulating here does not.

Hope this helps, it's what I have been able to piece together from Wacom users that are having problems with Big Sur.

the whole thing can get a bit tricky and the reinstall of the driver may not go as expected.  I found a site that goes through the steps you need to take if you have problems with installing the driver.  Apple makes it exceedingly difficult to install third party stuff with Big Sur:
