I'm beginning to research monitor replacements.  My current monitor still works well but I will probably retire it within the next year.  I have a couple of questions:

1.  Are there any new technologies on the horizon that I should beware of and that would be worth waiting for?

2.  I'm currently using a Dell Color Critical 30" and want to replace it with at least another 30", maybe a 32" and I want to go with a 4K.  I'm currently still using CS6 so I realize I will have to surrender to Adobe's monthly extortion payments for the new PS.  I also use Capture One Pro 20, but I don't know if it's compatible with 4K.  Does anyone know about that?

3.  I would like to go with an Eizo Coloredge, but after pricing them a few minutes ago, that ship has sailed.  Now, I'm thinking about either NEC Spectraview or BenQ SW321C 4K, but I'm not sure the BenQ is a true 4K because it disappears from the Adorama screen when I hit the 4K filter.

There is a HUGE price difference between the NEC Multisync PA311D and the BenQ SW321C  ($3100 vs $900). That tends to worry me because I'm a believer that you get what you pay for.

I would appreciate any answers or opinions anyone has.

I have been looking also. I will be going with the BenQ. I think you looked at the wrong BenQ to get a price. The 321C is $1,999 pretty much everywhere you look. I have seen nothing but good reviews for this monitor. I am currently using a 27" QHD BenQ. It has been fantastic, factory calibrated. I have calibrated it with the i1Display Pro though and it looks great. I want more screen though with the 32" and 4K. By the way the SW321C is true 4K. There are a bunch of reviews of this on YouTube.

I was in the same boat in April as I wanted to upgrade my computer and I would no longer be able to calibrate my old 24" Eizo CG241W as ColorNavigator 6 does not run under Catalina and its not compatible with version 7.
I settled on the 27" Eizo CS2740 4K monitor.  When I looked it up for the link I was dismayed to see it $250 cheaper than when I bought it  :(  I think it is a great monitor, really crisp and accurate.  I calibrate with I1 Display Pro.  I have done a few prints and happy with the accuracy.

Although based in Australia the link provides good information.  https://imagescience.com.au/products/mo ... mendations

I use Capture One Pro 20 and the 4K monitor displays without issue.  I am on a Mac.  I still use the older Eizo as a second monitor for tasks not requiring colour accuracy.  The 30" Eizo was out of my price range and at the end of the day the 27" gives me enough real estate and more importantly has uniform colour over the whole screen.

Important decisions as monitors tend to last many years.  Good luck with your choice.

Tim & Mark - Thank you both for the great info. Very happy to see that Capture One works well with 4K too. I will definitely check out the BenQ price again too.

Capture One is resolution independent. It supports whatever resolution you can throw at it.

I have the Benq SW321C and I am pretty happy with it, only thing that’s bugs me a bit is the Benq software. You should also consider the Asus ProArt PA32UCX, gets great reviews.
All comments & suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks E.J. and Andy.

Andy, Can I ask you what the irritant is with the BenQ software? Thanks for the Asus suggestion too.

Whoa, $4400 but it looks like a great monitor. At that price though, I'd likely set my sights on an Eizo.

My 77" OLED was cheaper than that. Not that I would edit photos on a 77" OLED. :)

Bill

The software is pretty basic and doesn’t give great calibration, ok but not great. DisplayCal for examples gives much better results but that’s a software calibration not a hardware. The validation part of the software is also very basic and it will pass a calibration that DisplayCal would fail.

EJ

I assume $4400 is the price of the Asus monitor? Here in New Zealand they are approx. US$3850 so somewhat cheaper, an Eizo (4K, 30") would be US$8250 and the BenQ US$2850. Not sure the Eizo is twice as good as the Asus but maybe??

Yeah that was US $4400, the Eizo ColorEdge is about $1K more but the BenQ is about half of the Asus
