I'v been using a Wacom medium size for several years and love it. brushing and selecting with a pen is much easier and more accurate than using my mouse.

I too use a medium size tablet and have for years. Only way to go.

Once you receive it "cage your mouse" for about two weeks and just make yourself use the pen. Best way to learn to use it.

Monitor should make no difference in the size of the tablet. I use a medium tablet with a 27" monitor.

I've used them for years and love them, in all apps. I have a medium but wound up mapping the surface to a smaller area -- I like to cover the area with wrist action, not arm. You want to scale the image to fit the area of comfortable movement. Zoom in to 300% or the like for fine work, or all the way out, as needed. Hold and use the pen like a pencil, with the base of your palm resting on the surface. The driver is a little wonky, at least on Mac, but worth putting up with.
