I keep getting notices that I should update Win 10 Pro ver. 1803, as 1803 is nearing the end of its support which is listed as the end of this year.  A while ago E.J. mentioned we should avoid updating to ver. 1809 as it had too many bugs. Is this still the case should I not install 1809?  Or should I skip 1809 and go directly ver. 1903

I'm running 1803. Even my new workstation from Puget came with 1803 installed - that says something since 1809 has been out for well over a year... I haven't gotten any notices.

This is the notice in Settings>Windows Update> directly under "Check for updates" button:
"You're currently running a version of Windows that's nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements."

When I click on a link for more info it takes you to this page:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

If you scroll down the page a bit you see a chart that indicates the "End of service for Home, Pro, and Pro for Workstations editions".
Are these end of service dates critical?
When Puget installed Windows did you ask for 1803 or did they install it on their own?

Yeah, I'm not getting that message but then I have my Win 10 set-up to defer full version updates for 1 year and other updates for 30 days.

They automatically installed 1803

That's the way I have mine setup also.
What will you do at the end of the year?

Whoa, I was wrong, I just checked my workstation and it's at 1903 (my laptops are on 1803). I could have sworn it was 1803 but probably just misrad it when I first started the system a couple of months ago.

Haven't had any issues but am still not getting those notices on my laptops :)

E.J. thanks for the update.
Can I assume that since you've had no issues with 1903 that it would be safe to install?
If yes, can I bypass 1809 entirely and go directly to 1903 without ever installing 1809?
I just feel nervous about using an old OS that doesn't have the latest security updates.

I don't know if you can go straight to 1903 but I would assume that the installer would not allow you to install it if it weren't safe or would automatically go get the missing components if there's something between 1803 and 1903 that it needs. I would not assume that 1803 would not get security updates, just maybe not new security modules and features. Usually MS keeps that going for a very long time even after support for bug and feature enhancement is stopped.

I downloaded the 1903 about a month ago to my win 10 Pro laptop and desktop. I have had no problems and have not noticed any changes to boot up times or anything else.
