That is a welcome announcement. I hope they solved the Affinity Photo compatibility problems...

Still don't know how the upgrade is done for those who already own PhotoLab Elite. I doubt any of them likes to pay for the PhotoLab Essential.

Looks like DXO will be loosing customers if they think existing NIK owners will pay nearly full price for upgrades. A pretty lousy thing for a company to do.

Well I remember paying $99 per plugin, so you know for the ease that these filters give in editing, I am in!

Well, they'd say you're not getting just the Nik Collection; you're getting DxO Lab Essential as well.

Found out existing PhotoLab owners pay $60 for the upgrade (with PhotoLab Essential comes as a free gift like it or not...whatever).

Question now is: will there still be a stand-alone version of Nik Collection in the future?

Free upgrade for me (didn't expect nik would be included). I haven't checked if my old nik has disappeared.

Because you just bought the old Nik?

No I have had nik for many years and I understand the old nik was erased if you download the new.

I just wondered how you could update from the previous version of DxO Nik Collection to the new DxO Nik Collection 2 without paying a dime.

DxO called the PhotoLab Essential Edition the software host of the DxO Nik Collection. Don't know if now you can use DxO Nik Collection without using PhotoLab.

More info:
The four in the Nik Collection 2 by DxO that can be used as standalone software are:
   Analog Efex Pro 2
   Color Efex Pro 4
   HDR Efex Pro 2
   Silver Efex Pro 2

or, you can use the collection from .... certified other host software:

And it is still possible to get the free version:

Nik Collection 2012

I'm confused about some of the comments, the upgrade price is $59.99 until June 30 and then it goes to $79.99, both are a lot less than the new user price.

My interpretation:

Existing PhotoLab owners got a 25% discount off the upgrade price of $79.99 until June 30, hence the $59.99. Non-owners pay $99.99 till June 30 then $149.99.

I don't own Photolab and my upgrade price for the Nik suite is also $59.99 - still not sure I understand the issue.

Guess I was wrong then. Sorry  :| Likely it's simply upgrading from previous version of DxO Nik Collection is $59.99 till Jun 30.

I own PhotoLab and so it was in my mind all along wondering why I had to pay for another version of it;  I should be paying them $45

I'm still using the Google version of the Nik plug-ins. Can I assume that the latest set will work with PS CS6? And does the current suite of plug-ins still include Viveza? (I saw no mention of that particular plug-in in any of the things I've read about this latest offering.)

It still includes Viveza according to the DXO site.  It supports CS5 and above and Win 7.1 and above, OSX Sierra 10.12 and above:
