I would guess this question has been asked before.  I tried to google the result but get answers all over the map.  Does CS6 and acrobat pro X run under windows 10?  If so, are there workarounds or should I just figure on running windows 7 until the hardware dies.

I run CS6 on Win 10 - no issues.
I have no idea about Acrobat Pro X.

I can't think why you would want to go to Windows 8, though.

I don't know why some people still hesitate to switch to Windows 10 after so many years, an operating system that has been used by millions of people around the world, at work or at home.

Forget about windows 8. Really.

I second that.
If you're getting Win 10 I'd recommend Win 10 Professional over the Home version.
