Color me frustrated.  I realize I'm out of my comfort zone when it comes to technology but I seem to somehow muddle through, but this is driving me bonkers.

What I want - I would like to purchase a wireless hard drive (at least 2TB, preferably 4TB) that is AC powered, not battery powered. I AM NOT looking for a portable drive.  I want it so that my desktop computer and my laptop computer can share the same drive so that I'm not always saving files to a thumb drive and transferring them.  Desktop & laptop are NOT in the same room.

Oh yeah, one other thing.  Desktop is using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit; Laptop is using Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

1.  Does an 110v wireless hard drive exist?
2. If so, can you do what I want to use it for?
3. Again, if it exists, would it be a difficult or complex set-up process?
3. Is there a better way of doing what I want to do?

Thanks in advance.
Bill

Hmmm, this looks pretty interesting.  I will definitely check this out.  I would think I could certainly use this if I was just in another room (like I originally envisioned), but I could perhaps also use it when I'm on the road, assuming I have cell service.  Thanks Jeff.

Though not exactly what is considered a "wireless" option, what you are describing would easily be taken care of with a NAS system.

Thanks Brad, I'm not familiar with an NAS system, but will look into it.

The simplest solution would be regular external HD and access point with USB connection.
Don't know if that would be very efficient. NAS would be obvious other way around but that's wired access unless you hook it up to
access point or wireless infrastructure.

I believe Synology has a wireless 2 drive NAS, the DS213air.  If that isn't too your liking, many of their regular NAS boxes can be connected to wifi by just using a dongle plugged into the USB port.

Why not use a cloud-based service like Dropbox or One Drive?

I may be missing something but why do you need a WiFi hard drive?
I use USB 3 hard drives to backup my computers. The Win 10 laptop should have a USB 3 port the Win 7 desktop probably doesn't have a USB 3 port but you can easily add a USB 3 card card in the desktop (assuming there is an open slot). This should be just as fast or faster than WiFi and it is easy to just plug the drive into whichever computer you're using. There are plenty of USB portable hard drive available - lots of options at different price points.

Perhaps I am missing something, but why not set up a home network in windows on your desktop that will allow your desktop and laptop top communicate with each other? I do not know if and how the home network will recognize any external hard drives. Other more qualified folks will have to render opitions on these issues.
