I used to be able to see thumbnail images when opening a folder to choose something to process in Topaz studio. Now all I see are images that say "NEF".

Have not updated my computer. Anyone else have this problem? running OS High Sierra 10.13.4. This just started happening for no reason I can discern. It's very frustrating as I have to look at images in PS bridge to see which ones I want to process, remember the number, and choose right number from the folder.

Also thought you could put a folder in the sidebar of Studio-I upgraded to get "AI Clear", and don't see a way to do that now.  Maybe some of you have been using Studio longer- I had a version of Studio as a Photoshop CC filter- very convenient-but I'm not sure I can do that now, either. Thanks for your thoughts. I like AI Clear, but I usually finish off my work in PS CC.

Thanks for your thoughts...

Run Topaz Studio as a a stand alone, not from inside PS, then:  File > Open Image or Project > and navigate to the folder and then select all of the images you want to work on and they will all go in a filmstrip at the bottom of Topaz Studio.

As for no thumbnails in finder, that is controlled by the OS so either you got a new camera not supported by your version of OSX or maybe your OSX needs an update or maybe something went haywire in OSX.

Thanks-EJ- I can open multiple images now...but still can't see the thumbnails so no idea what I'm opening unless I look at them elsewhere.
I tried your suggestion below, but it didn't work. I don't have a "new" camera, but I am using a "new"  D750 on trial. (It should be supported....) The thumbnails show up in older folders for the D500, but not in newer folders for either camera. Hmmm-could the D750 have skewed the process?

Hmm, no the D750 wouldn't cause that. Did you try all of the different remedies in the link above?

Yes, tried them all. Preview (the usual default) says it doesn't support this kind of file. I can tell it to open one of the images (that still just says "NEF" on it) in Topaz Studio , it will, but if I go to Studio and try to open files in a D500 folder , there are still no thumbnails. I might try asking Topaz for help....

P.S. This seems to be a common problem , searching for answers ......

Hi Ron-yes-had to re-install to add the pro functions. I actually don't think it's a Topaz problem. Probably a Mac problem. At least that's what I'm seeing in searches for answers. :(

Problem solved...sort of. On my D500 I was using RAW M. Switched it to RAW L, and voila- images are visible. And my hard drive will fill up faster, and I still can't see RAW M. Apparently that's what Mac supports..and doesn't. Pretty ridiculous. I have mega RAW M files. If I change the image area on the D750, it doesn't matter what format I choose in RAW-(FX,DX or 1.2x) -they all show up as thumbnails. (There is no similar RAW L, RAW M choice on that camera) Drat-I'm literally married to Mac....my husband gets them for me as discards from where he works. :) :(. Of course I don't know if a PC would have similar issues.
Anyway, it looks like I'm going to need more external HD if I want to stick with RAW L on the D500 or any camera.

Raw M isn't actually a true RAW file in the traditional sense.  Yes it has the NEF extension but the internals of the file are not like full NEF RAW files.  So the computer has no way of extracting an embedded JPEG for thumbnail from a proprietary SRAW or MRAW file that is disguised as a full sized RAW file.  That would definitely create the issue you are seeing.

Well that's a revelation!  Thanks for the explanation. Here's the full list of supported cameras for MAC High Sierra. I think there are similar lists for other versions.

By the way, is picture quality compromised in SRAW and MRAW?  D5 apparently has those same options and MAC requires only LRAW for that camera too.
