…and allows multiple Undos.

The latest version of PS now has multiple Undos when pressing cmd + Z (ctrl + Z for Windows). Photoshop CC 2019.

Well it always had the history tool giving you as many undos as you want...

It also always had it in the "Edit" menu. They just changed how they labelled it in CC2019.

Yes, You could always go back in history to any previous state. But the menu and shortcut were never anything other than a toggle between the latest and the previous state. No way to go farther back. It had been that way since the very first version of PS and users had been complaining about it since then. Adobe kept arguing that being able to compare the current with the previous state going back and forth is important to the majority of users, but I never met anybody who likes it.

I'm confused, on PS CS6 option+cmd+z takes you back for multiple undos and shift+command+z takes you forward for multiple redos.

Which is a pain for those for those who use other Adobe apps that all have the commands cmd/ctrl+z for "undo" and option/alt+cmd/ctrl+z for "redo". Those shortcuts are also commonly used with programs from other developers and most users apply them by muscle memory, rather than consciously pressing those keys.

Since Adobe already employed those common shortcuts in Acrobat and Illustrator, which are 4 or 5 years older than PS, we were quite puzzled when Photoshop arrived with the undo/redo toggle function for cmd/ctrl+z, in February of 1990. Eventually "Step Forward" shift+cmd/ctrl+z and "Step Backward" option/alt+cmd/ctrl+z were added, which went mostly unnoticed because most of us were already used to using the history panel by then (I don't even remember in which version those debuted).

So, starting with PS CC 2019 we have:
cmd/ctrl+z = undo
shift+cmd/ctrl+z = redo
option/alt+cmd/ctrl+z = undo/redo toggle (for those who might miss that)
