Looking at the design, it does seem that this addresses the top failure items of SD cards.

Meanwhile, there is also a new XQD supplier - Delkin,

Doesn't Delkin just rebrand cards (probably Sony)?

Yes they do but hopefully this will create some price tension.

I did read somewhere that Nikon are providing every Z series camera with a free XQD card for a few months.

Once the price comes down a bit, which it will, I am going to start replacing some of my older cards with these.  In the meantime, the ProGrade cards are very good although they still have the write protect tab.
