Hopefully good news for fans of the Nik plugins. It's a smart move for DxO in my opinion, and not one that I expected to read about. :)

I'm guessing it would become part of their DxO PhotoLab ($69 for anyone who wants to upgrade to it from DxO Optics Pro 11) and sell it separately to everyone else.

I would happily pay again for this software, and I first bought it before it dropped to $129 and then free!

Right now Nikon D 500 and D 850 images cannot be processed by DxO software.

I use DxO Optics Pro 11 and it surely can process D500. It's been like that since I bought the camera last year.

You may have missed an update or two.  Their site says that they support both.

The way DxO does is that once you've loaded the raw file into the program, if you need to download camera/lens profiles in order to process the file properly, a message will pop up to tell you so. Of course you can check update like the way you'd check update in any other software. Now I did download a D850 file from Imaging Resource to see if DxO could process it. My Optics Pro 11 says no, but the photo does appear in the "browser" with metadata available. I don't have PhotoLab yet but I'm guessing it supports D850 if DxO site says its program supports it.

EJ and others, Inam glad the Nikon files can be processed. However, when I filled in the camera model and lens, the site told me they were not covered and then I got a canned email telling me the same.

I cannot find on their site where this info is. Any specific place to go on the site to find this?

Thanks, joe

This is good news for me as well. If there is a bundle price for DxO Optix Pro I would strongly consider adding the entire suite to my tools.

A friend of mine has it and just upgraded to DXO PhotoLab Elite and likes it. He normally uses the fixed price version of LR and says
that Elite is similar in operation to LR.

His only issue was that the image data does not reflect the use of Nikon teleconverters on long lenses.
He will be trying out Control Points that are in Elite.
You can download the manual for the Elite program from DXO's website.

In reading the material put out by DXO it seems they bought NIK from Google to get the control point technology. This was probably a good move as Google certainly didn't seem to care about it at all. Perhaps, over time, the original NIK suites will be replaced by updated DXO suites with the full control point integration and some of the templates that made NIK so desirable? If this happens the result should be better products with all the capability of the NIK suites we love.

They have already committed to that in 2018.  They have not said if there will be a cost to us for this update but I would assume so.

DxO PhotoLab has the control point technology implemented. Thom Hogan likes what he sees:
