What are folks using for the initial scan of images directly from the flashcard? In the old days, we used something like breezebrowser or photo mechanic. Lightroom seems a bit slow for this task and I would like a faster option that will also rename the images with a sequence number.

After copying the photos from the card to a folder on the computer, I use Photo Mechanic to quickly grade, delete, and rename. it's fast and full featured.
I have tried lots of applications and this is my preference.

Thanks Richard Bledsoe, I have PM but it is the last version before the instituted the years payment plan. It is crashing when I use LR at the same time (on a mac). I have been reluctant to upgrade PM (about $100 annually) since my primary use is just rename and deleting images in PM. I know that companies need to generate income but that is a bit high for my budget or desires, at this time.

Hard to go past Breezebrowser pro if you are on a PC, the high quality rendering is very good, it's fast to load and very quick when stepping through and culling images.
