I am encountering with increasing frequency an interfering pop-up message. If I click on an image in one of my folders to open it I get the following:

Image
It takes three to five clicks on the x or the ok to finally clear it and the image will then display in PS. In the process it kicks out my Nik plug-in from the PS screen until I close out PS and rerun the Nik collection. I am given no option to open the image in any other system, only PS. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Hi Joe,
When things like this have started happening I have uninstalled and then reinstalled Photoshop. With CS6 make sure you deactivate it first - on the tool bar go to Help>Deactivate. Then uninstall the programme - this is done from the Control Panel>programmes and Features. Then you should clean the Registry of any left overs using something like CCCleaner. In fact you could just use CCleaner to uninstall the programme then clean up the registry. Then I would go through the file structure tree on the C: drive and delete any remaining folders or entries that have any reference to CS6. Re-boot the computer and then reinstall CS6.

Others may have a better solution.

Before going to the trouble of re-installing I would delete your preference file first and let Photoshop create a new one on startup to see if that fixes your problem. The preference file is often corrupted and causes problems in Photoshop.

Thanks very much for including the screen shot. MSVCR110.dll is part of Windows Essentials. Open the Control Panel/Programs and Features, and see if you find Windows Live Essentials (or maybe Windows Essentials) there. If so, select it, click on Uniinstall/Change, then click Repair. It may take a couple of minutes to run.

Gary, I do not find Windows Live Essentials nor Windows Essentials. I only find Windows Security Essentials.

What happens when you start CS6 from the desktop without clicking on an image?

If I open PS from the desktop no problem. It is only when clicking on an image that I get this aberration.

That's good news. You can change the file association so that clicking a jpg opens it in another viewer -- a browser or Windows Photo viewer.

Open control panel, click Default Programs / Associate a file type... /
Scroll down and select .jpe, .jpeg, and .jpg then click Change Program
Select whatever you like that isn't PS (Window Photo Viewer or a browser)
Click OK and when you click a jpg photo hopefuly things will work better
