I'm looking at the Asus G751JY laptop to take on the road in our motorhome for an extended trip like Craig Lipski is planning.

There is a version for $1480. with the GTX970M video card that I can add ram and SSD to and have a good performing unit. Although the $2195 version has the same CPU the video card is the Nvidia GeForce GTX980M. Here is a comparison of the two cards:

Since I mainly want to run Photoshop, I'm wondering if there is a downside to having the GTX970M? I remember that EJ used to say the video card did not do much for Photoshop, is that still true?

Either one will work very well with PS. While graphics cards now do play a major role in PS performance as it is now written to use the GPU cores, both of those cards are above the threshold of what PS can use so you will not see a significant difference in performance between the two in today's PS world. However if you plan to delve into 4K video during the lifespan of this computer then the higher spec card could be a benefit.

Guaranteed it will be a bit better with the lower spec one ;) Whether its a significant component though, I don't know.
