Global shutter in tiny little sensors like this one isn't that hard and has been out there from more advance sensor manufacturers for some time. The more innovative part of this is the dual in-pixel charge HDR than the global shutter at this size of a sensor. One of the biggest limitations in something like an iPhone vs a large sensor camera of the same megapixels is the dramatically lower dynamic range. This tries to address that.

Canon is putting out FUD in preparation of the new A7sIII which reportedly will come with a global shutter in full frame video negating rolling shutter.
