Well, it's been said many times on this board, that it's not if your hard drive will fail, but when - and mine did this week. My primary data drive in my desktop suddenly became erratic. Thanks to the urging of many on this site, I did have redundant external backup drives - nothing sophisticated, just plain old single drives with one kept off site. I replaced the 2TB mechanical drive with a 2TB ssd and easily restored my pixs. So thanks everyone, particularly E.J., for the reminders to be prepared for an eventual failure. I'm not a professional but I might have lost years of my pictures.
