Etosha is an amazing place. I love the comp ( In a perfect world, would have preferred the Lion to be alone in the foreground), the DoF is optimal and the Lion stands out distinctly in the scene. The assembly of Oryx and Springboks look like a painting in the BG. I shall be back there pretty soon...

Interesting effect -- almost as if the lion were dreaming about dinner...

Judging from your equipment setup you must have been at a greater distance from the lion than his dinner. Yet you got his attention more than they do. How did you do that?
A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.

I really like the three layers of depth in this image, it's a brilliant capture!

indeed, i was in a car quite far away. what you can't see here is that there was game scattered all around between the lions and us. seems like i had a little helper, who gave the lion a cue to look up in the right moment ;)

What a relief. It somehow looked like you were on his "to do" list.

I guess the herd won't be milling around so casually when the lion pride is on its feet. Amazing that such animals are so close to one another when one is dinner for the other.

I like the overall view and the direct look of the lion. A real story telling pic.

I really like this. The panoramic presentation, atmospheric haze, and muted colors really make for a nice image.

Such an interesting image Joerg. The Oryx looking towards the Lions adds a great element.

This is an absolutely lovely capture. There is good depth with the animal groups at different places through the image and it has a painterly quality as the haziness slightly blurs the antelope. The crop is just perfect, giving a good amount of "breathing room" around all the animals but without wasted space. Really, really nice.

Hey Joerg

I like this . the space adds to the sense of calm and quiet, but there's a strong sense that things can so easily change .. very cool.

Cheers

Nice shot. If I think about it, I wonder what animal the lion is sitting with (that can't be all him)...and if the group of standing critters is not waiting to watch their uncle get eaten. I'm not exactly sure what's going on in the photo but "calm before the storm" for myself requires a summons to someone's poetic license. I like the composition. TY.
