Nicely composed view of this amazing weevil and its vampiric attendants.

This is great! Love the composition of the weevil emerging from a gap in the leaves, the way its eye grabs the viewer and of course those colourful mites! Great natural history shot showing how convoluted food webs really are.
Also very sharp throughout. Is this a stacked image?

Excellent detailed portrait of the weevil - the leafy setting is super. Lovely soft light.

OK, I see it it is handheld now, so probably not stacked. Am curious about your techs on this shot then.

Hi

Quite a sight, and one that sort of makes you feel sorry for the poor old chap – those mites must be quite a burden. Neat image though

All the best

Thanks a ton everyone. Even if this was a nice/ interesting subject, it still gives me the creeps.
Roberta, this was a handheld shot. Pentax Kx and a smc pentax M series manual 100mm f4 macro lens at f11. A very sharp lens (hard to go wrong with this lil barrel), 1/80 sec, ISO 400. The weevil was a bout 2 inches in length. This was shot at MFD and then cropped a bit. Most of the critter being parallel, the DOF did the rest.

I used PS to despeckle the background.

Oh, wow!! That is a big weevil!
Doesn't give me the creeps at all. I find it rather cute with its elephant snout.
Thanks for the techs.
