The 9th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/photocontest/9th-annual/?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=printmagazine&utm_campaign=2011-May&utm_content=photocontest

This contest accepts entries in five categories: Americana, The Natural World, People, Altered Images, and Travel. Prizes include a trip to Yosemite National Park (or $3000 equivalent) grand prize, $500 for each category winner, and $500 to the reader's choice winner.

Please note this rule on image rights: "By entering the contest, entrants grant the Smithsonian Institution a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly and all other standard Smithsonian purposes. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. The Smithsonian Institution will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses."

Having visited the Smithsonian to see the winning images, I can say this appears to be a well run contest with some beautiful winning entries. However, please consider if the rule above is a deal breaker for you when entering.
