Trucker Protest to affect traffic and some bridges

Right now there are no travel restrictions between the province of Ontario and Quebec (except for some regions in Quebec). However, non-essential travel is not advised.

Currently, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and the territories are banning visitors from other provinces.  Personally, I do not see these bans being lifted until maybe mid to late summer or even not until fall. The reason being that once you do reopen the borders, all that work you did in the preceeding months may be compromised.  A doctor from Newbrunswick traveled to Quebec and then returned to Newbrunswick.  He got infected with the coronavirus while in Quebec and did not self-isolate upon returning to Newbrunswick and passed it to a number of people at his place of work. Travel restrictions may change as the situation is fluid so anything can happen.

Travel to Manitoba and NovaScotia will require that you first self-isolate for 14 days before moving around in the province. This pretty much will discourage any tourism as no one will want to stay put in some motel for 2 weeks before they can actually drive around in the province.

Of course, the travel ban between USA and Canada remains in effect until June 30th except for essential travel. I personally expect this to stretch for another 30 days but have no idea really. I am looking forward to the border reopening as I shop on Amazon.com for some items (which cannot be shipped to Canada or have big shipping fees) and then drive across to the USA to pick it up.

US and Canada border closure

A local newspaper is speculating on the US / Canada border closure being extended for another month..

At the current rate of infections and predicted spikes up, it is likely to remain closed for some time. My state and many states, especially those in states that are very hot where we spend our summers indoors in A/C are starting to see record numbers of new cases and hospitalizations.

Well, just fly to the States to pick up your stuff:

Canadians can still travel to the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic — just not by car

When Canadians return home, they must self-isolate for 14 days — as per federal rules.

I read that yesterday or today.  Doesn't make sense.  I wonder if Americans can fly into Canada?  Nothing on Amazon.com is worth the airfare AND follow-up 14 day isolation.

I didn't want to say it but my gut and common sense agrees with what you say about the travel ban (by car) being extended.  I'm not expecting to drive across the border until August/September.

That's why it's called a loophole. All essential travels are not banned and so anyone from the States of course can fly to Canada on essential travels.

IMO when the border is open depends on the situations in the States as theirs are worse than ours. In fact, when Trudeau at first exempted US citizens from the ban, BC's Health Minister disagreed and told US: "Don't come."

The latest is:

Canada to allow family of citizens across U.S. border amid COVID-19 shutdown

only that they have to self-quarantined for 14 days.

Or, meet in places like the Peace Arch Park in BC

I really have no idea but there is now talk from some analysts about the border being closed for longer than end of July for recreational travel.  Maybe until the end of the year or even into the new year.  Too early to tell but with some States seeing their Covid-19 numbers spiking and the USA being on the denied list for travel to the European Union, anything is possible.  Interesting weeks ahead.

Reopening the Canada-US border will be a long piecemeal process.

July 2022..or July 2023? just joking..as we really are starting to get ready to be hit by the pandemic! Glad I live in Boston, Mass. We seem to play/behave safer than many other states.

See the USA as I don't think many other countries want us right now. I don't blame them.

"Recent polling suggests that more than 80 per cent of Canadians favour keeping the border restrictions in place."

"Some leading public health experts have suggested the border should remain closed until at least the end of the year."

"Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-François Blanchet told reporters that the border should remain closed because the pandemic is still out of control in the U.S. "

"If we take examples of countries who managed well this crisis, in the list of those who did well, you won't find the United States," Blanchet said. "

"As long as the border appears to be a threat in the health of Quebecers and Canadians, it should remain closed."

Here is the latest from the CBC (Canada's national broadcaster).

Article hints the border could be closed for months more which would take us into the flu season and the much talked about, possible second wave.

"Canada and the U.S. review their border closure agreement every 30 days.  Several experts in different fields have told CBC News that they predict the border won't reopen until sometime next year".  -  CBC News.

American charged under Qurantine Act. He was given the option to pay a $1,200 ticket or appear in court and told to stay in his hotel until he left the following day.  The next afternoon his vehicle was spotted at the gondola at Sulphur Mountain (he said, "looking for food").  There was plenty of amenities and food at the hotel.  He was arrested and is scheduled to appear in a Canmore, Alberta court in November.

As expected, the border closure between Canada and USA has been extended into September but according to the CBC, experts tell them that the border may be closed for non-essential travel into the new year.

An actress entering Canada (Quebec) from the USA for work purposes (movie set) had to first, self-isolate for 14 days,  That reminded me of this:
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/ ... anada.html

The province of Quebec is using colour codes to designate cities or regions according to the number of new infections.  Montreal is now considered to be a red zone which is the highest alert level. There has been an increase of infection rates for Ontario as well, mostly in the Toronto area (Peel region) and also Ottawa area.  The big cities.

The border restrictions had been extended for another month as was expected, to end of October.  According to news sites like the CBC (Canada's national broadcaster) they quote sources or experts saying the US/Canada border possibly could be closed for much longer.

My guess is it will remain closed until vaccine in wide spread use and US out of "RED ZONE"
