Pretty cool and unique experience most people will never see.

Many years ago I went on a week-long solo kayaking trip off the coast of BC. One calm night I was sitting on an rocky point by the ocean when I heard a seal breathe nearby. I looked over to it and the green bioluminescence marking its every move and splash was breath taking. It then dove and I could follow it underwater easily from the light trail it left as it made an arc down and then back up to the surface for another breathe further away. One of the peak experiences of my life.

Another peak experience was paddling solo at night out of Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Green bioluminescence illuminated every paddle stroke and the bow wake was spectacular. Periodically my paddle blade would contact a jellyfish which would then glow like a lantern in response. That was about the happiest time ever in my entire life.

Thanks for posting and triggering these fond memories.

Well Roberta, I’m glad you were able to see that! It sounds amazing and eerie at the same time. Must be some kind of thrill if a person has never seen or heard of it. I would love to see it just once in my life, but I haven’t even been to the beach since I was five(62 years ago).
