Thanks Disney!  Another sign of the camera phone pushing out DSLRs and mirrorless cameras?

Nothing keeps you from posting a shot with any camera from being posted in Instagram - not sure why this would be pushing non-phone types of cameras.

Just that it seems to me that the quality of the photo is degraded more on Instagram than say on the "Your shot" website.  I only tried posting a couple of times on Instagram and maybe I didn't do a good job of downsizing before posting?

Downsize it yourself prior to uploading 1200 wide for horizontals and 1024 tall for verticals. Verticals must not have a larger aspect ratio than 7x6 or it will autocrop and you might not like the crop - if you need a larger aspect ratio, add a black border to get it to 7x6. Looks like it isn't easy to post a photo to Instagram from a desktop computer, though possible with some sort of add-on. Instagram seems to be intended for mobile devices. That's not where I keep or send my pictures, nor would I bother to put them there just so I can send them to Nat Geo...if I wanted to do that. (I have a few pictures there, but that's not my point. I don't like this trend much.).

I use Desktop for Instagram from both Macs and PCs daily - it's very easy to post to Instagram from a desktop computer or laptop:

Thanks, E.J. I'll try that.  I see "Desktop for Instagram" requires Google Chrome (?) Not a fan.  I am not seeing a way to post from Firefox on my site.  I guess my point still applies, though- it seems to be a mobile device-oriented world these days. Iguess I live in the dark ages!

Thanks E.J. I found an inexpensive downloader (https://mac.eltima.com/instagram-uploader.html)-the Firefox add-on sounded like it had some problems and also asks for $$ apparently.
Some resizing is necessary, I guess. Put up 2 pics:
