I listened to an interview on Canad'a Public Radio network, the CBC about an egg thief who specialized in falcon eggs especially the much sought after Gyrfalcon. Apparently a gyrfalcon egg, the most sought after bird in the Middle East can go for up to a half-million dollars. This guy they arrested a number of times was really good at spotting nests and even traveled to northern Quebec to find nesting sites. He was found with 29 Gyrfalcon eggs. The Gyrfalcon is one of the 'sensitive species' that eBird has decided to no longer disclose the exact location of. Great Gray Owl and Northern Hawk Owl are two other deemed sensitive species (for disturbance reasons) that eBird no longer provides exact locations for.
CBC interview. It's a great listen.
