Pshaw,

I'm in central Massachusetts, home of the bean and the cod don't you know, and..

I have beavers, fox, deer, possums, skunks, bobcats, turkeys, Bald Eagles, coyotes, and the occasional nuisance black bear in my back yard. Rumors of the occasional catamount. (That's eastern for mountain lion). Not yet seen sasquatch however.

And I live in a condo right off a major highway. So how come I want to travel to shoot wildlife photography?

Being serious though, I'm an old guy and never in my dreams as a kid, did I ever think that we would see this kind of wildlife in our urban state. Maybe some things are going right.

OK, one more hand, I'll play four "beware moose crossing" signs within ten miles. darn, you don't want to meet those guys at night. That beats anything about chickens crossing the road - not so sure about crossing Elk however. Oh yeah, Fishers, Otters, and Mink all in the woods and swamps around here.

I'm beginning to sound like the Fish and Wildlife tourist and travel bureau.

Oregon can't top NM on reptiles, but we do have a frog named after us, Oregon Spotted Frog (ESA listed). We have a breeding population of Moose, 2 kinds of Elk (Roosevelt a larger version of the Rocky Mtn.elk in the central and eastern, Roosevelt on the coast). 2 kinds of Bighorn (Rocky Mtn. and Calif). 2 kinds of Whitetail (regular & Columbian which is ESA listed) plus Mule deer & Blacktail. Sadly our Otters supply the fur market, a long with Fishers, American & Pacific marten. Wolverines & lynx show up every once in a while. As for wolves, our Canadian would eat your Chihuahua size Mexican for lunch.
