In yet another case of idiots visiting some of our western treasures, Flase Kiva in Canyonlands National Park, a true iconic spot in America's west, was recently vandalized and has now been closed to visitation.  This has long been a western park favorite for photographers but no more, at least for the time being.  Yet another case of "what the he!! is wrong with people..."

Unfortunately a sad reality....in a planet grossly overpopulated by morons....who care more for their 5 seconds of fame on Instagram than for the environment they trample and destroy in their odious quest.

Too many idiots in the outdoors. Like these guys who destroyed sandstone pedestals in Utah and Oregon:

"...overpopulated by morons" and a country now governed by morons.

Are the morons really the ones governing the country? Or are the real morons the ones that voted them into power and continue to let them get away with crimes against nature that will have everlasting consequences?

Please lets not go down a knock down drag out politics discussion. Nobody wins in those and they just create animosity.

True. Although I might be tempted to agreeing with several of you folks. Let's keep politics out of it. It is best dealt with personally at the voting booth in November.

That said, I am not sure if I am the only one seeing spectacularly stupid things being done in nature. Started off with the guys trying to taunt a bison (video posted in the news) earlier in the summer, followed by several episodes during the summer. Just look at this forum now and check out the number of posts reporting egregious behavior. Yesterday, in the news, I saw another video from Alaska where a guy walked into the water in front of the Grizzlies feeding on Salmon. Apparently he will be prosecuted. What the he!! is going on??

Is it just me or are these instances increasing in number?

I'm not sure whether the frequency of these stupid acts is increasing or just a part of the ebb and flow of how these things seem to go in cycles. I do think the immediacy of media reporting does spawn some cop-cat type stupid behavior as well as the potential impression of more acts occurring now. But is it just more media coverage or actual more stupid acts? I don't know. Vandalism of all sorts has been a part of human behavior for a long time. It is a real shame though when the vandalism is done to archaeological sites. Respect for all life, including wildlife, the earth, and archaeological sites left by a people's ancestors is a great value we can all share.

Bear in mind that the "nature of news coverage" has changed. With the birth of 24 hour news on cable, more and more stories are needed to fill up this round the clock news coverage. With the advent of the smart phones stupid things can be recorded in HD anywhere. Then there are the TV shows that have people doing STUPID things to get on TV. All of these things combine to have these stories on the news or You Tube. Once it's online it spreads like a cancer.
