It's a shame that many of the images submitted for display are devoid of even the basic information regarding the location, and even the data on camera, lens or settings.  I have no way of assessing their value when I don't know if they were taken in the wild, in a zoo or in a private aviary.  Are they so afraid others may learn of a "private" location or process?

I half agree. The lens used and camera settings do help people learn how a image was made. When it comes to “value”....
I judge an image baised on what they are: flat two dimensional impressions of reality. It’s what they are and all they can ever can be. Thinking an image is more is as dysfunctional as letting one’s ego enter the judgement process.  I don’t care who made it, when, where, why, or with what. I judge a photograph based on what I know to be possiable with photographic equipment, and the sum of it’s parts. I don’t discuss specific locations in an attempt to protect the natural world from humans. Being a guest, the gift is not mine to give.

I completely agree with WDCarrier.
The camera info is definitely useful for anyone looking to improve their own photography.
As far as location info goes, images that don't include even some basic info of location get no attention from me.
At least include the state, country or planet where the image was taken. If anyone is trying protect their own private area, I would say that just be vague about the exact location. For instance, it makes a difference if a bird was photographed where it is common vs. where it may be a rarity.
When it comes to being afraid of humans harming the natural world - that ship has sailed. Look at the big picture and what is being done by our federal government right now. Big time harm is coming to the natural world as a matter of policy and intension.
Besides, I would like to think that members of this site would behave properly in the field. If they don't they should be called out for it. In any case it is a learning/teaching opportunity. Isn't that one of the reasons this site exists???

ROFLOL - Well I have been including location, state and country if it's outside of the US but I have failed on labeling my photos coming from Planet Earth :D
