It looks like they'll be worse this year, and a new virus is of concern

Always good advice to be aware of these little varmints. I spend a lot of time in the woods especially in the spring. I use to cover myself with deet produces but never really liked using that stuff. A few years ago I started taking some specific cloths that I would wear to these places and soaking them in the proper solution of permethrin. It has worked great. You can buy the Sawyer spray product that is already diluted properly but it can get expensive. You can buy solutions of permethrin at varying percentages and then further dilute it with water. Then soak the cloths, let them dry and your good. A much more economical way of doing it.

What caught my eye was this quote ""About 15% of patients who are infected and have symptoms are not going survive," said Lyons, who is also an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. "Of the survivors, at least 50% will have long-term neurological damage that is not going to resolve."

Pants with tick cuffs, from LL Bean, might be what you need.
