Traveling near Titusville mid Nov, I only have one or two partial days for bird photography. Have not visited the area this time of year before. Almost always a Rich Grissom (Viera) wetlands visit occurs in March and the same species are becoming redundant.  Wondering if Nov 11-12  at Merritt Island is too early for migrant waterfowl? Also confused at the website on hunting seasons, wondering if waterfowl hunting season is open  during this time?  As with all places, the most known and written about get my attention so if a suggestion for something better from Titusville south to Vero Beach is thought of, appreciate a note.

Desired species other than waterfowl not photographed before - reddish egret, black necked stilt, Am. avocet, white-rumped sandpiper

Thanks

The hunting season at Merritt Island NWR:
Hunting is allowed on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year's Day within the framework of the State hunt season.
Early Teal - September 17-27, 2016
Regular Season - November 19-27, December 10, 2016 to January 29, 2017
Youth Hunt - February 4-5, 2017
Hunting is limited to certain outer perimeter areas like bio-lab road, and is prohibited on Black Point Drive.
The Archery Big Game Hunt has been rescheduled for November 4-6, 2016.

The migratory bird season is December-February
The refuge’s bird checklist I have is from a census done in 1982. It lists the Avocet as common in fall and winter. I have seen flocks there in January. Wood duck, ring-necked duck and blue-winged teal are commonly found.

A nearby area where hunting is recently discontinued is Orlando Wetlands Park.
