I'm looking at going to Iceland this winter.  No moon I guess is best for northern lights, moon is good for moon light scenic.  Any thoughts about the moon timing for trips to Iceland in winter?

If you go during the time where the moon is transitioning from new moon or crescent to half moon (or the reverse, from half moon to new moon) you get the best of both worlds since only part of the night will be moonlit.  At least in my experience Aurora tends to be a little more active (higher Kp) in the first half of the night so timing it to where moonrise is at say 11:00PM or later could be beneficial.  That way you can shoot Aurora if present in the evening and moonlit scenes in the early morning.
