I had my 500 Lens with camera attached fall while on a tripod today  . The lens was damaged and needs repair. I live in Pennsylvania, and would like opinions on which Canon repair location would be the best to send the lens to, Jamesburg, NJ or Irvine, CA.

Thanks

Bryan

Jamesburg would be your service center. It will be expensive :(

Sorry bout your luck and good luck on a quick, inexpensive repair !!

I dropped my old 600mm from my gitzo / wimberly tripod a 1.4 years ago and smashed my D300 that was on the end of it on asphalt. They had it for a good month plus, replacing the encoder board, bayonette and manual focus ring / cleaning unit. The shipping, parts and labor only came to $458 which State Farm picked up.

good luck,

I had a Canon 500 that had the front element replaced by Canon and the cost was approximately $650.00. The repair took about 4 weeks including the shipping both ways.

I'd heard a lot of negative comments about Jamesburg. So when I thought adjustments had made to my gear (1D Mk II N, 500 IS, 300 2.8, 100-400) I sent them to Irvine. The postage was much more expensive, but they did a great job. Clean; AF was on the money. I think it was worth the extra money spent on postage.
