Book Review: 88 Secrets To Photoshop for Photographers

by | June 1, 2005

Book reviewAdobe Photoshop, one of the most popular image editing programs for photographers, may appear almost impossibly complex to a new user with its dropdown menus loaded with powerful tools. As a photographer who has used Photoshop for years, I find the more I learn about the program the more I realize is still there to learn—I have only scratched the surface.

But in Scott Bourne’s 112-page book, “88 Secrets,” it’s possible to get some great tips in a way that seems not so complex. Information is presented in an easy-to-read manner. Tips are a single or a few paragraphs in concise language, perfect for readers pressed for time. Just reading and trying out one tip at a time can improve your Photoshop skills. This book opens doors and shows beginner to intermediate users ways around Photoshop that one might never figure out on his/her own.

This book provides a broad range of information on Photoshop, with insights that will help photographers make even more of this powerful program. With tidbits of information from customizing your program windows for a more effective workspace (like Secret #47, Navigation/Screen Modes) to efficient shortcuts (such as Secret #31, Quick Brush Changes), image editing and special effects (Secret #17, Adjusting Contrast, or #29, Blur Filters), to special output (Secret #18, Web Gallery or #19, Contact Sheets), this book shares these secrets and more!
