CAMERA PLATES A camera plate is needed to mount your camera to a tripod. NatureScapes.Net offers the Wimberley P-5 universal camera body plate. Note that with a gimbal head adapter, a camera can be attached to a gimbal head directly via the camera plate.
LENS PLATES Lens plates attach to the lens foot of your lens and allow it to be mounted to a tripod head or ballhead. Safety stops at the front and back of our plates help to keep your lens from accidentally slipping out of the quick-release clamp. Some of the smaller plates have anti-twist nubs at the back of the plate, which help to keep the plate from twisting if it is mounted with only one fastener.
LENS FEET / ADAPTER PLATES
Also known as “replacement feet,” adapter plates replace the existing lens foot and lower the center of gravity of large lenses, also making them easier to pack. In some cases there is also a savings in weight over the stock foot, valuable to photographers traveling by air to destinations with strict weight restrictions. |
WIMBERLEY QUICK RELEASE LENS PLATESWimberley offers a line of Arca-Swiss style quick release plates for collared lenses, with safety stops at the front and back of the plate in order to prevent your lens from accidentally slipping out of the quick release clamp. When using both stops you must open the jaws of the quick release wide enough to load your lens from the top instead of sliding it in. Stops can be added or removed with the hex key provided. Wimberley plates are long enough to provide adequate distance between the two stop screws to straddle the length of most quick release clamps. The stop screws do limit allowable forward-backward adjustment. Use in combination with Wimberley quick release clamps solves this problem, as clamps have channels extending to almost the center of the clamp. The channels allow full range of forward and back motion but will not let the plate slip out. The double dovetail cross-section on the plates allows you to attach Wimberley flash brackets to the upper or lower surface of the plate (double dovetail cross-section shown at right). Lens plates come in five sizes that accommodate nearly every collared lens on the market. The plates have slots that allow multiple fasteners and a wide variety of fastener positions so the plate can be oriented on the lens foot in a way that best fits your needs. Hang the plate off the front or back of the lens foot to attach flash brackets to the plate. Adjust the position to best suit the balance point of your lens.
Wimberley plates are ideal for components of Wimberley's flash bracket system but are also milled to accept Really Right Stuff and Kirk flash brackets. The specially milled end of the plate works equally well hanging off the font or back of the lens foot. To use Kirk brackets you must install two special screws that are included with the plate; the ends of these screws serve as nubs that keep the bracket from twisting. Anti-twist nubs are available on the shorter plates which can be placed flush with the lens foot to prevent the plate from swiveling. The larger plates do not have the anti-twist flanges, as they are secured with multiple fasteners. SUGGESTED WIMBERLEY LENS PLATES FOR COMMON LENSESThe suggested plates allow enough length to easily balance your lens in almost every configuration. The plates are generally at least 3/4" longer than the mounting foot of the suggested lens. This allows you to attach a flash bracket to the top surface of the plate. But these are only suggestions. If you wish to buy a plate other than the one suggested, or if your lens is not listed below, please use the plate pictures and dimensions listed to guide your selection. (rb) You may wish to purchase separate, extra reducer bushings with the plate in the quantity indicated. * Note: The recommendations for Sigma lenses assume the standard factory foot is installed on the lens. In some cases, Sigma sometimes installs their larger TS-41 Replacement Collar and Foot instead. Measure the length of the foot on your lens to ensure the suggested plate is correct; the plate should be about one inch longer than the foot on your lens.
