Nature photography takes us to many destinations where we, and our gear, endure varying conditions. When exposing your tripod to mud or salt water spray, use a wet paper towel, rag or cloth with plain water to wipe down and dry the legs completely before collapsing them. This can reduce the amount of dirt and grime that gets into the bushings. When grit gets into the leg collars or water has entered the tripod legs, especially corrosive salt water, disassembly and maintenance may be required. Carbon fiber tripods employ guide bushings and locking bushings. Bushing sets are available to replace damaged bushings or as a spare set to swap out wet ones. Bushing sets come with three each of eight sizes, with one part numer now "fitting all" Gitzo carbon fiber tripods. Note that you will have bushings left over that do not fit your tripod.
