This set of rings replaces a set of Kenko rings for NIKON I purchased several years ago. The Kenko rings were OK when used one at a time but they were not tight enough to use in combination without getting error messages due to the electronics not communicating between the lens, tubes and body. I wish NIKON would make a quality automatic ring set like Canon does that would provide the electronic contacts to not loose functionality of the lens when extended. While the Phottix rings are advertised as metal, they are not all metal construction. They do fit together better than the Kinko rings and I have heard from friends that the newer Kenko rings are improved over my older set. I can say the internal light baffling is improved on the Phottix and I like the lens release tabs better than the Kenko design.

The AquaTech Sport Shield is designed to provide your camera gear with protection against nearly any environment, whether it is wind, sand, rain, or snow. AquaTech Sport Shields offer protection for many Canon and Nikon lenses and cameras. Please refer to our Sport Shield Reference Chart for a full list of supported lenses.

The AquaTech Sport Shield is made from a 3-ply breathable waterproof fabric that keeps the elements out while allowing ventilation. The adjustable front rubber seal provides a watertight seal with the lens hood while the securing eyepiece (sold separately) allows quick access the camera’s prism. Each Sport Shield is tape seam sealed offering complete protection against even the harshest environments. The one-piece design provides complete enclosure and moisture protection for both camera body and lens with a "glove-like" fit.

All Sport Shield models are equipped with two windows allowing full access to the camera’s top setting LCD and main viewing LCD screens without removing the Sport Shield. Also included are small neoprene sections on the top of the Sport Shield allowing the user access to the camera hot shoe connector and camera strap. There is a flap that covers these sections keeping water out when not in use.

Each Sport Shield is outfitted with drawstrings on the armhole allowing for a comfortable snug fit around the user's arm.

This rain shield goes on easily, it protects the camera and lens from rain. and is a much better option than the rain sleeve I've been using as it is easy to access the controls. It works great when shooting using a horizontal format. Shooting a vertical isn't as easy as I would like. It would probably work well if you use a pan and tilt tripod head but I use an L-bracket on my camera combined with a ball head. You can't just flip your camera over from a horizontal format to a vertical format that the L-bracket was designed to do.

I like to photograph waterfalls and I would like to see an opening that makes it easy to switch from horizontal to vertical.

Advantages: Good protection, easy to use.

Disadvantages: Hard to switch from horizontal to vertical format when using an L-bracket and tripod.
