Biography

I have been involved in photography since I was an adolescent. I tried my first 35mm SLR in 1972, used a Minolta X700 for years. I developed and printed my own film for several years, but digital photography brought me out of the closet (literally, that?s where I had my darkroom!). My first digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix 5700. I wasn't sure that moving away from film would work for me. I soon found out it was a lot cheaper, but the difference in savings is eaten up by the cost of the new equipment! I got some excellent images from the camera, but I drowned the camera in Petersburg, Alaska at the start of a 3 1/2 week tour in 2005. I was forced to buy a new Canon XT in Sitka, Alaska (Oh, darn the bad luck) and have been happy ever since. I progressed to a Canon XTi, but I now have a Canon 5D Mk IV and R5 Mirrorless. To expand my range, I have several Canon L-series lenses including the big 500 mm F4.

I've had my skills validated when I was selected for the Outdoor Photographer Magazine's Landscape Calendar for 2009. I considered it quite an honor to be considered and totally thrilled when I was selected. I was also invited to participate in a pro/am photo tournament in South Texas. I am a contributor to iNaturalist as a method to preserve my work and make it available for study, since I have amassed a large inventory over the years, mostly in travel, scenic and nature photography.
