Chief Joseph and his band of Nez Perce Indians lived in what is now Wallowa County, Northeast Oregon. The Nez Perce made their summer village at the foot of Wallow Lake where they fished and hunted . The lake was carved by glacial activity with perfect moraines on each side. During the late fall and winter Chief Joseph would lead his tribe into the warmth of the deep canyons stretching to Hells Canyon and the Snake River.
Clyde J "CJ" Hockett MD spent the first 17 years of his life in this beautiful, wild, and natural environment. He utilized this early experience to further his talent and education in visual arts. His skill as a nature photographer specializing in the artistic capture of wild birds was further enhanced by field training with Arthur Morris, Greg Downing, Al Forns, and Robert O'toole.
