Good article, I much prefer this type of testing than lab testing its much more relevant.

Dear E.J.

Thank you for referring us to this article. The article was informative and encouraging.
Let us hope that we can finally see some production units of the Canon 1DX soon.

Best Regards,

Roman :D

Sounds like one will really need to dig in and thoroughly understand the AF system to get the most out of it. Hopefully the complexity won't result in unwarranted "the AF sucks" press.

Hmmm, bigger and heavier, not a feature I was hoping for, but overall the camera does sound encouraging despite the price.

Yeah I was surprised that it's almost a half pound heavier. that's significant.

3 pounds 8 oz. Enough said.

Exactly why I am suddenly having the urge to dump all my dSLR gear and buy a NEX-7 and a few really small light rangefinder lenses along with the 18-55.

That is a good review but I don't understand what's going on with the pictures. Every image I'm looking at in that review looks soft. I'm sure it's just a web posting thing but that's odd.
Cheers,
Doug

Dear E.J.

The weight differential between the 1DX and the 1D Mk IV is not overwhelming, at least to me. According to the review, the new 1DX weighs 3 lbs 8 ozs and the 1D Mk IV weighs 3 lb 2.4 ozs. Thus, the weight differential is only 5.6 ozs --less than half a pound. While I would have preferred that the 1DX weigh less than it does, that weight differential alone does not appear to be overwhelming. I would feel differently if the 1DX weighed in at 4 lbs or more.

Best Regards,

Roman :-)

To be honest, I didn't thought it's heavier. For me it actually felt lighter, but obviously that's due ergonomic changes in grip. It holds, at least for me, better then old 1d bodies, so obviously that was reason, why I thought it's actually lighter then mk4.

@ Doug:

I spoke to Jay about the images -- all the images in the article are RAW files right out of the 1DX, so there wasn't any sharpening applied whatsoever. Some of the images he showed me that have been processed are even more spectacular.

Best ...
