Fungus on a rotten log

Postby sgingold on Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:18 pm

Catchy title, eh? :-) I've found a forum where folks help ID fungus, but this is apparently a pretty ubiquitous appearance for many fungi. Collybia is one possibility. I don't pick wildflowers, which in a way describes a mushroom, so without a spore print I won't be able to ID a lot of these, I guess.

5D Mark II, 180 macro+CP, f/16@6sec, ISO 100, tripod etc. Shaded bg and reflected underside.

I like being able to see the gills. Nice lighting here.

Hi

A great low down angle for the subject that creates a strong point of view, which combined with you composition works well to create impact and appeal

A pretty pristine looking group f fungi as well!!!

Regarding ID’s – in a lot of cases one really requires a sample of the fungus in question so that spore samples can be obtained. Often the different colourations will help in the identifying process – nowadays I just enjoy the views, and leaves the harder parts to more knowledgeable types

All the best
Matthew
