This was shot on Saturday, December 17, 2011 - just a couple of days ago. There were over a hundred photographers vying for position, but there was really no bad position. The winter solstice brings the setting sun down right through the window. Stunning for all to photograph on the Big Sur coast. Come early. I could have cropped it thinner and lost some of the sky, but I like the rock being in its place, just a small part of a magical coastline.
Nikon D3s body, 24-120 lens, ISO 800, f11 at 1/30, Bogen tripod. Raw converted in ACR. Best image from a 9 shot bracket. No messing around with this. Brent Russell Paull // American West Photo Safaris
