Great Plains Indian Pow Wow

I took this image at the Great Plains Indian Pow Wow in Cody, Wyoming in June. The light was horrible. It was extremely harsh since the Pow Wow was at 3:00pm and not a cloud in the sky. I decided to get creative so I put a 10 stop ND filter on my camera to slow down the shutter speed and get some blurs.

For the final effect I added the anisotropic difusser filter on PS CS5 and then added the sketch 2 frac effect on a separate layer that was masked in some areas to bring out the original layer.

Hope you like it. :D

Wow, and yes I like it. That is awesome using a 10 stop ND filter creating the motion, I like ICM and would love to see the original photo too.
Thanks for sharing.

This came out really well! It's a riot of color and motion-I like that you kept some features on the face. I think it really expresses the feel of a dance. You whole process is very creative.
I would love to see the original too. And I do wonder about making this a vertical with the left side cropped and a bit on the right. That would create a very different picture, but might focus more on the one figure. Just a thought.

Really nice work Hector -- I especially the sketch effect which adds a touch of definition to the shapes. Very creative image!

You really show the action with this. The sketch gives it just enough form.

This is one very creative and thoughtful image that (to me) captures the motion, emotion, and mood of the dance.

I would think the dancers would really appreciate a print of this one. It's excellent in all ways.

Yes the original is very good too.

IMO, the beauty of the re-work is that it retains all the colour and motion of the background while blurring it enough that it doesn't compete with the dancer's face. So in effect it becomes a very imaginative portrait of a single dancer.

Had the same thing happen to me Hector. I think maybe blurring the BG might put more emphasis on the main subject. Very creative to try some blurs (and quick thinking)!
